Talking Senator Wins Big In Lottery - Do We Get A Share?

A New England Senator just raked in a cool $850,000 plus in the Power Ball lottery after buying 20 tickets for same!

He says that he bought these tickets on a whim, but it must be noted that, in reality, it was the People of the United States who purchased these gambling tickets. I doubt, however, that we will all share in his winnings, even though we help to pay for his and all other lawmaker?s losings. I guess that this means: ?Heads they wins, tails we lose!?

?So how about it Senator, I am still waiting my few bucks to arrive, or is it in the mail?

It can be truly said that there just ain?t no justice - the poor just get poorer, while the rich get richer and richer, and on the people?s money at that!

?A United States Senator buying lottery tickets and gambling with our money so to speak (opinion) - now does that tell you something?? Besides, upper-echelon lawmakers are suppose to set an example, are they not?

Hey Senator, that ?Double-Sawbuck? could have bought some starving veteran or hungry kid, a decent meal or two! Oh, and according to financial records, this particular Senator could be worth as much as $6,000,000 or more (one of our poorer lawmakers no doubt), before he bet his (our) money on the lottery and won that is!!

?Greedy for the property of others, extravagant with his own!? (Sallust c.86-c.35 BC)

?I am not hungry; but thank goodness I am greedy!? (Punch 1878)

Of course, these are but my own personal opinions again, even if they were made in jest!

I bet this guy is just sick about winning this money. I'm sure he will donate it to the relief victims in need.

Default Getting a share

Senators and Congressmen receive a check from the government. However using this logic all town, city, county, state and federal employees fall into the same category. If a firefighter, or soldier or person collecting a disability buys a mega-bucks ticket, he or she bought it with government money. Should they be required to share the winnings with the general public?

Does working for the government and/or collecting a check from the government mean that we give up certain rights? Yes, in some cases. Cops, fireman, members of the military can?t go on strike. Because some of our business is confidential we loose some of our freedom of speech. But what logical reason would prohibit a disabled veteran or a Senator from purchasing a lottery ticket?

Trust me, I don?t like defending politicians and Hardcore I don?t like disagreeing with you but?

Stay healthy,
Andy

ANDY & BOATS -

Of course, I was just being a smart ass! Besides, as underpaid as congress claims to be, when not voting themselves middle of the night raises that is, they need the financial boost!

Also, their is a vast difference between the financial status of a U.S. Senator and a disabled vet. Hell, I would never begruge a disabled veteran any money, especially not such a great financial windfall! As a matter of fact, I'd even send the guy or gal a congratulations card, were he or she lucky enough to win a lottery!! "And lord knows, they would probably put it to far better use than 80 % of our current politicians?"

And hey, that was one helluva idea about donating this $800,000 plus lottery to hurricane relief!! And I'll bet that it would be tax deductible at that?

"Just a thought!"

Default What if

I collect 100% disability from the VA. 10% shrapnel in left thigh, 10% shrapnel in right thigh, 10% loss of vision in the left eye, 30% PTSD, 30% incurable cancer, 100% unable to work. I?ve been told that if I do work and get a W-2 form I?ll loose my 100%.

What if I hit the lottery for, lets say, $50,000. Equal to about 3 years of disability, would I loose the 100%? Would I be better off giving my wife the winning ticket so as not to screw with the disability payment? I don?t expect hitting the numbers, I don?t play them, but what if?

Stay healthy,
Andy

Ah yes Andy, the world is loaded with what-ifs! I live with them on an almost daily basis. From what-ifs, after all, oft time springs hope and innovation!
