Today is the 50th Anniversary of Hawaiian statehood.

Hawaii joined the Union on August 21, 1959.

Hawaii is of course famous for the hula, luaus, volcanoes, and for temporarily being Kenya for one day in 1961.

Interesting history.
Worth some reading.
You'll notice actual Hawaiins conspicuously absent from the festivities.
