Swiss sidearms
What would be the general expert opinion of the Swiss (I think) SIG 7.5mm STGW or 5.56mm SG550/551... a weapon which I just read about that is supposedly required by law for every Swiss citizen to keep at home?
Semi or fully automatic it is, they said. Is this similar/identical with the Israeli Uzi? Is the Uzi actually, or correctly, Israeli born? |

The SIG has no connection with the Israeli UZI. The UZI takes it's name from the inventor, Uzial Gal. It's also a 9mm weapon. The SIG on the other hand fires the same ammo that the M-16 fires as the Swiss have adopted the NATO calibers. Not every Swiss citizen has one of these at home........just those Swiss who are members of the military reserves. (Most males between 18 and 45 years old) Notice how much crime the Swiss have with all that lethal firepower in the hands of the citizenry? When was the last time you heard of a shooting in Switzerland?

Right Murph - thanks for that clarification...
I had just then read a piece by Tom Clancy in which the SIG was mentioned... wanted to check with you guys... on it. He didn't have it quite accurately. Clancy made the same point as you in your final snetence (as Bones would say ) |
