Trav,

Yeah, I spent 6 years in the Twin Cities.

One thing that really impressed me was the winter sunsets in Minnesota.

We don't have anything like that down here:

Trav,

I think the name of the lake is Medicine Lake, just NW of Minneapolis. I lived in Plymouth and went by there every day.
In winter after the lake froze deep you'd see little houses and cars out on the lake. I saw a fish somebody caught outa there one day. About 2 1/2 feet in length and TEETH so long he could barely shut his damn mouth. Uff Da! :re:

I was up there from 1972 until 1978. Worked over in St. Paul.

I had never been out of the South. First winter I was there it got down to minus 31 degrees with a minus eighty-something wind chill.

I remember thinking, "What the hell have I done?"

Steve...you are talking about a Northern (looks alot like an alligator gar to you southern boys). People here go crazy over them. I say give me a nice big catfish, bass, crappie or the like. I dislike these northern fish almost as much as the mosquitos! Guess it is all where you grow up. Still alot of southern boy in me after 10 years up here.

Good friend of mine just moved out to Plymouth from St Paul. Every one with any sense is leaving the cities for the suburbs, metro area is 7 counties large now and getting bigger everyday! they have light rail here now, covers most of the inner city and buses that cover the entire metro.

Winters here...seems I can take them better now than I can the heat, was down in Dallas early this summer and damn near tipped over! My Uncle kept laughing and calling me a Yankee, asked me when I was going to start talking like Andy!

We have had it pretty easy for the last 5 or so years here, guess we are due for a good winter. Have frost almost every morning, a little early for that so this might be our year!

Trav,

Even 25 years ago when I was there the Cities had a great bus system. You could set your watch by the buses and go anywhere in the downtown area for 35 cents, as long as you didnt reverse direction.

There was a BIG department store right downtown (Minneapolis)...I believe it was Dayton's...and they used to do a musical Christmas display that took up the whole eighth floor. Moving and motorized figures of Santa, reindeer, The Nutcracker Suite, etc.

It was absolutely breathtaking.

And you could ride the elevator in the IDS building up to about the 75th floor, and look out over the whole cities of Minneapolis and St Paul and all the lakes, and the Mississippi river.

The beauty of Minnesota was almost worth the cold...but not quite.

Trav,
You gotta be referring to the Northern Pike. Nice fish to catch. Kind of like a pikerel. Puts up a hell of a fight for a while, has a lot of teeth but not much for eating. Too boney. Trout would be the fish of choice here. Lakers and browns. The streams are not as fished like they used to be so it lets the native trout get bigger. I go out with one lure, catch and release trout, and usually come back with someones lure they stuck in a tree along the stream.
