Islamic State-Khorasan fighters in Afghanistan ‘continue to resist counter-terrorism pressure’, says Pentagon report
By: Gabriel Dominguez - London - Jane's Defence Weekly - 8-27-19

Islamic State-Khorasan fighters in Afghanistan remain a "significant threat" to Afghan security forces and civilians as the militants "continue to evade, counter, and resist counter-terrorism pressure", the Lead Inspector General (Lead IG) at the Pentagon for the US Operation 'Freedom's Sentinel' said in a report to the US Congress published on 20 August.

Glenn Fine, the principal deputy inspector general performing the duties of the Inspector General, said in the quarterly report, which covers the period from 1 April to 30 June, that the Islamic State-Khorasan "maintains the capability to conduct mass casualty attacks", despite US special operations forces conducting unilateral and partnered operations with Afghan forces against the militant group.

O Almighty Lord God, who neither slumberest nor sleepest; Protect and assist, we beseech thee, all those who at home or abroad, by land, by sea, or in the air, are serving this country, that they, being armed with thy defence, may be preserved evermore in all perils; and being filled with wisdom and girded with strength, may do their duty to thy honour and glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
