Original 17th century kiln tiles and bricks can still be seen on display in the café, adding to the unique character of this venue. The café is open Tuesdays to Fridays from 9am to 4pm and Saturdays 9am to 3pm and offers a great range of sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes, homemade cakes and hot and cold drinks. The Kiln is part of the Malthouse Project run by Genesis, a charitable institution that provides housing and support for people in need. The café is run by two full time professional members of staff with help from volunteers, students and Genesis residents and service users. This opportunity provides training and work experience for a number of people in the community, particularly for people who have been excluded from mainstream education and training because of illness, disability or other barriers. The café hosts a variety of events during the year and can also be hired out as a meeting or conference facility along with the Beamed Room, and the Heritage & Training Room in the project grounds. If you are interested in volunteering and would like to know how to go about it, visit the Genesis website. Hours:* Mon: Closed Tue - Fri: 09:00-16:00 Sat: 09:00-15:00 Read the original review on the Local Secrets website.
