Default The Welcome Home shit.....

I received a email one time from a Marine CAP vietnam vet and it was a letter that was titled, Dear Vietnam Veteran, and the letter was from "America"....i guess it was supposed to be a tear jerker.....this was my response to him and to America.....

Dear America,

Thank you so very much for your thoughtfullness and kind letter. It has been a long time since we communicated.

After much thought, and I must say "Deep" thought I have decided to answer your letter.

Thinking back to the sixties I am reminded about how you turned your back on us in Vietnam after over 58,000 brave warriors were killed and handed that Country over to the NVA. I didn't know about all the politics involved in the War until I got home. I did know about how you let the War Protestors demoralize us, and let them spit on us when we got home in the name of "Freedom of Speech".

I did finally realize that we weren't over there fighting for anyone's Freedom. We were fighting for each other. We were fighting to survive another day.

I think about the thousands and thousands of sons, daughters, and even still some parents who have for years celebrated the Holidays with a folded flag in a piece of shit triangled container, instead of with a live human being that can't ever be touched or held again.

I think about all the Heroes on that Ugly Piece of Black Stone in DC that gave their lives for you. Or at least that is what they were thinking when they Died.

I think about all the Bro's that I have made friends with over the last few years. About their suffering, and about how your wonderful Veterans Administration treats them. Or should I say Mistreat them !!!

America, I Love you. I will Defend You. I would Go Again Tomorrow.

But in Reference to your Letter Only !! GET FUCKED !!

Its too little.....TOO LATE !!!

Sincerely,

Dane Brown

Not that long ago a buddy from basic training stopped by. We reminised over a cup of coffee and decided, had we passed on the sidewalk the day before, we wouldn't recognize each other.
My 40th high school class reunion was similar. Everyone was so fat and bald they didn't recognize me.
Funny, isn't it? How we can change so much on the outside, while inside, everything seems to remain the same? There have been times I've caught a quick glimpse of my own reflection, either in a store window or a mirror, and wondered who that person was I saw.

In years past, whenever I would run into old friends or classmates, they would say, "You haven't changed a bit." But, after I turned fifty, I don't hear that opinion as often. I suppose if I didn't want anyone to recognize who I was, that would be a good thing. Hey, now there's an idea! We could show up at any ol' reunion party and pass ourselves off as somebody else. :cl: Then, after we've chowed down on all the free finger food and drank our fill, we could slip out the back door. No one would be the wiser. They'd all still be picking their brains trying to remember what we used to look like....and wondering why they couldn't remember our names....lol I'm just kidding. I'd never pull such a stunt. That would be unethical.

Don't be silly,Nancy,we are all FINE lookin!Just gotta look at us in the right way.Ugly is in the eye of the beholder.

Take a close look at those folks the media proclaims as "bueatiful".Skin like a babies-no scars,no laugh lines,no stretch marks from childbirth, surely no wrinkles. No limp or other evidence of injury. In short they don't appear to have done any livin at all, just maybe kept in a glass case and only taken out for photo ops.Always has seemed kinda sad to me.I much prefer someone who appears to have actually gone to the trouble of liveing and has enjoyed it.

I know what you mean......like that famous picture of the sea captain (can't remember the title....Old Salt....or something similar). I love the fact that we aren't all clones of Barbie and Ken.

I didn't mean to suggest that just because we change on the outside means that we have grown uglier. I was referring to "any" kind of change which would prevent people we once knew from recognizing us. It can have its disadvantages, too, like in the scenario Charles mentioned, where we might pass an old friend or comrade on the sidewalk and fail to recognize them. Just imagine all the vets who might be reunited if they all looked the same as when they saw each other last.....unless, of course, the last time meant some were lying gravely injured on the battlefield.

Don't mind me. I can flip flop back and forth with these type of "what ifs" all day long.....lol

Headed to the laundry room to wash clothes, I am
Nancy
