The new anemia drug peginesatide (Omontys) has been recalled
http://www.valdezlink.com/re/drugs/peginesatide.htm
The new anemia drug peginesatide (Omontys) has been recalled (all lots) because of severe hypersensitivity reactions -- some fatal -- observed after the drug was approved last March. www.medpagetoday.com/HematologyOncology/Anemia/37509 Oh my goodness - I can't imagine anything so horrible (unless it's Humira or Procrit): Chemical formula: C231H350N62O58S6[C2H4O]n Theraputic claim: Treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease. And look at all the glycol ethers in it! Chemical name: Poly(oxy1-2ethanediyl), α-hydro-ω-methoxy-, diester with 21N6,21'N6-[[(N2,N6-dicarboxylysyl-β-alanyl)imino]bis(1-oxo-2,1-ethanediyl)]bis[N-acetylglycylglycyl-L-leucyl-L-tyrosyl-L-alanyl-L-cysteinyl-L-histidyl-L-methionylglycyl-L-prolyl-L-isoleucyl-L-threonyl-3-(1-naphthalenyl)-L-alanyl-L-valyl-L-cysteinyl-L-glutaminyl-L-prolyl-L-leucyl-L-arginyl-N-methylglycyl-L-lysinamide] cyclic (6→15),(6'→15')-bis(disulfide) http://www.ama-assn.org/resources/doc/usan/peginesatide.pdf Humira: C6428H9912N1694O1987S46 PROCRIT: C809-H1301-N229-O240-S5 If this harmed you in the first place: C6H14O2 (common glycol ether: 2-butoxyethanol) What makes us think these medications will help us? ... or will they harm us? Procrit:
Erythropoietin is a glycoprotein which stimulates red blood cell production. It is produced in the kidney and stimulates the division and differentiation of committed erythroid progenitors in the bone marrow. PROCRIT® (Epoetin alfa), a 165 amino acid glycoprotein manufactured by recombinant DNA technology, has the same biological effects as endogenous erythropoietin. WARNINGS: INCREASED MORTALITY, SERIOUS CARDIOVASCULAR and THROMBOEMBOLIC EVENTS, and INCREASED RISK OF TUMOR PROGRESSION OR RECURRENCE Renal failure: Patients experienced greater risks for death and serious cardiovascular events when administered erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) to target higher versus lower hemoglobin levels (13.5 vs. 11.3 g/dL; 14 vs. 10 g/dL) in two clinical studies. Individualize dosing to achieve and maintain hemoglobin levels within the range of 10 to 12 g/dL http://www.rxlist.com/procrit-drug.htmMy friend, Helen took Procrit ... and also what doctors prescribed for elevated blood sugar & Blood Pressure. She lost weight & was a success per following her doctors 'orders' She died anyway & the rapid heart beat they thought was part of a heart attack, was more than likely a sign of AIHA or IMHA that glycol ether chemical exposures (such as 2-BE would cause). I suspect she was harmed by such glycol ether chemicals in the cleaning products she used. And that rapid heart beat was a sign of the anemia.
