Default My I have your attention please

Hi Everybody, this Tamaroa aka Bill D. Many of you have known me for ages ( I was #9) on the original Patriot Files. You also have probably been driven nuts by my almost singleminded obsession to save an old Coast Guard salvage tug. We're coming down to the wire now and hopefully will have a home port in Virginia in the next few weeks.

If you go to the Coast Guard section to the topic "Tamaroa is now Zuni Tamaroa " please go to the 5th post. There is a pdf document there of an article I wrote that was published last week about our efforts. I hope you like it and hope you can empathize with us and our efforts to save a piece of history that was all over the world. As the Zuni she fought at Iwo Jima and is the last surviving naval vessel from that battle. And she also was the cutter that saved those helicopter pilots during the "PERFECT STORM".

I hope you like the article and I hope you think that the Tamaroa Zuni is worth the effort to preserve.

Thanks,

Bill Doherty

The last ship from Iwo Jima must be saved!

Thanks, Bill!

P.S.

Also noted from her history that Tamaroa was the first on scene when the ocean liner Andrea Doria sank in '56.

Bill,
It was an interesting adventure to have served on her from 1982 to 1984. Sick as a dog most of the time but had some wonderful friends and times. Search and rescue, law enforcement, and several fisheries patrols in the cold N. Atlantic. Played tourist in Boston and Key West, REFTRA in GITMO and Norfolk, Towed a fishing boat 300 miles back to Portland, Me. in some of the worst winter seas (1-1/2 inches of ice all over the port side). Capt. Hyme was captain. Began my strike for QM under QMCS Weatherby. Memories.

Steve
