A 17th Century village pub that knows a thing or two about good food, a satisfying tipple and a friendly welcome.

Come and try our classic pub cuisine, prepared using seasonal produce and ingredients sourced from local suppliers.

Warm welcomes a speciality, whether you fancy a fireside drink, a quick snack or a more formal meal.

Now a well-established local feature, The Blue Lion provides a warm and friendly venue for a relaxing drink, a hearty business lunch or a sociable dinner with friends, family or colleagues.

Building on their experience of serving classic pub cuisine, new owners Luke Edwards - manager of The Plough at Coton for the last five years - and Stuart Tuck - former head chef at the Old Spring in Cambridge - have prepared a menu for all seasons: classic British seasonal meals, modern dishes with ingredients sourced from local suppliers wherever possible.

Lunchtime bites including Hot Salt Beef on Ciabatta with caramelized Onion, English Mustard, Wild Rocket and Pickles; and Dorset Crab on Sour Dough with Wild Rocket, Lemon and Dill Mayo; will appear alongside British classics like Beer Battered Haddock Fillet with Crushed Peas, Hand cut Chips and Tartar Sauce; and Sausage and Mash.

Luke Edwards said: "The Blue Lion has been trading as a pub since 1737 and has played an important part in the history of Hardwick. Following our refurbishment we plan to continue this work and be an active member of the local community providing an inviting setting for residents to use for socializing with friends, family and neighbors. We also want to attract people and businesses from the city center and surrounding villages that want to enjoy a decent dining experience or host a professional business lunch or dinner. We look forward to welcoming people through the door to see the changes we have made at The Blue Lion."

The Blue Lion building dates back to the 1680s. Prince Albert was said to have enjoyed a drink at the pub during his time at Cambridge University. The public house is also rumored to have a ghost called Mabel - a previous landlady who died there in the eighteenth century.

Pub opening: Sun: 10:00-22:30 Mon - Sat: 10:00-23:00

Restaurant: Sun: 12:00-20:00 Mon to Fri: 12:00-14:30, 18:00-21:00 Sat: 12:00-21:00
