Unfortunately, in this post 9/11 world, almost anyone can recite some rough definition of ?terrorism.? In its simplest terms, most would agree that terrorism is the use of violence to attain some political objective. Of course, in order for terrorism to be effective and for the political message to get out, a terrorist group will usually quickly claim responsibility for their acts of terror. However, while the United States is embroiled in a war against international terrorism, we are also facing a cowardly domestic terror group known as the Earth Liberation Front, which has committed millions of dollars in property damage, but refuses to ever actually claim responsibility for their actions.

The Earth Liberation Front, also fittingly known as ELF, is as underground group of mental midgets that feel it is their duty to forcefully defend the earth. Of course, the earth has been around for millions of years now, but it now suddenly requires the efforts of the extremist wing of the Birkenstock mafia to liberate it. ELF has no centralized organization or leadership, and no official membership. Instead, ELF simply suggests acts of destruction on its amusing website, which members of the public can then choose to carry out. Keep in mind that, according to ELF, since these acts are carried out anonymously, the eco-terrorists could be your ?parents, teachers, church volunteers, or even your partner.? Thanks for the warning ELF, but I can guarantee that none of my family or friends are firebombing Hummer dealerships late at night.

Once these destructive acts are anonymously committed, ELF basically picks and chooses what to claim responsibility for. Really, any property damage that can somehow be connected to the defense of the envirionment can be claimed by ELF, even if committed without any eco-terrorist motive. This is akin to al-Qaeda claiming responsibility for this month?s blackout, and is basically terrorism minus the risk factor. Presumably if any of these ELF activists are apprehended, there will be no claim of responsibility by ELF. ELF only seems to claim responsibility if the offender is nowhere to be found. Even when they claim responsibility, the ELF press releases always caution that the actors are anonymous and not officially linked to ELF.

A visit to the ELF website will produce many other examples of cowardice. First of all, this is a group whose whole mission is to threaten people. However, if you go to the section of the website that allows you to contact ELF, you are warned not to send any threatening messages. If you do verbally attack them, ELF will forward your threatening message to your internet service provider. This is typical of extreme leftists, who are quick to claim the protection of the 1st Amendment for their statements, but if you disagree with them, you are infringing on their 1st Amendment rights. Also, the ELF guidelines include educating the public about the ?atrocities committed against the earth and all species that populate it? and ?to take all necessary precautions against harming any animal, human or nonhuman.? Presumably, capitalists are neither human or nonhuman.

ELF is a simply a terrorist group whose far left ideals have no support in the political forum. As a result, they resort to selfish, cowardly acts of destruction against people who are guilty of nothing more than working and being productive. Understandably, the FBI and CIA are overworked with the war on terrorism, but this group must be stopped before their recent media attention causes them to step up their destruction.
