Dissension

“Dissension”, or a difference of opinion if you prefer, is in itself a healthy thing!” For without a little dissension, everyone would think alike, leading us into a society that is akin to that which is described in George Orwell’s (Eric Blair’s) classic novel ‘1984! ‘

“Isn’t it amazing how mankind hungers for a toady-like society, while at the same time, we applaud those individuals who think and act on their own? Without a little dissension, however, the human race would be boring indeed, with everyone aping the actions of everyone else!”

And could you possibly imagine a world where everyone was the same, at least on the inside of their heads and in their thinking? A world where we all walked around nodding in total agreement and our actions were identical and almost completely predictable! That would almost be like existing within a vacuum, or inside of a society where everyone adhered to the same religion, identical political views, and that face that is staring back at you from the mirror thought exactly the way that you do!

For better of worse however, we are all living in a world unto ourselves – different views, differing ideas, various personalities and backgrounds, and a burning desire to knock-off the poor dumb slob that resides just on the other side of the street, or across the nearest ocean, if you prefer!

“So there you have it!” Without dissension, there would be no wars, no disputes, no greed, no politics, no crime, and probably no human race either! “Then what would we ever do to entertain ourselves?”
