Nikki Haley Speaks Of A ‘Strangled’ North Korea While H.R. McMaster Puts The ‘Military Option’ On The Table

RE: http://uproxx.com/news/north-korea-n...fing-mcmaster/

On Friday, White House briefing guests included U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley and National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, who both popped in to discuss North Korea. This gathering takes place after the ever-hostile regime of Kim Jong-un spent days re-upping an already accelerating set of actions, capped off by another flyover missile aimed in Japan’s direction. This followed North Korea’s wildest threat yet — to sink Japan with a nuke and reduce the U.S. to “ashes and darkness.”

While some on Twitter noted that Haley looked much like an “inter-galactic war” leader, she was all business while claiming that new U.N. sanctions have “strangled [North Korea’s] situation at this point.” However, Haley cautioned that the effects of these sanctions may not be apparent to outsiders for some time, so the U.S. must stay vigilant:

“What we are seeing is they continue to be provocative, they continue to be reckless. And at that point there is not a whole lot the security council is going to be able to do from here when you have cut 90% of the trade and 30% of the oil. So, having said that, I have no problem with kicking it to [Defense Secretary James] Mattis because I think he has plenty of options.”

McMaster then stepped up to confirm that the possible “military option” spoken of by General Mattis a few weeks ago is truly on the table:

“For those who have said, and been commenting about a lack of an military option, there is a military option. Now it is not what we would prefer to do.“
North Korea tends to conduct missile and nuke tests at whim, often on the weekend, so god only knows what the next few days shall bring from Pyongyang. You can watch McMaster’s portion of the briefing on link site only - see above.

McMaster: ‘There Is a Military Option’ to Respond to North Korea

RE: http://freebeacon.com/national-secur...e-north-korea/

National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster said Friday that a "military option" is on the table to respond to North Korea's ongoing provocations.

McMaster appeared alongside U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley at the daily White House press briefing, where the two addressed the ongoing situation in North Korea. On Thursday, the regime of dictator Kim Jong-Un tested yet another missile, again launching the missile in a trajectory that passed over U.S. ally Japan.

McMaster addressed the most recent round of sanctions against North Korea, which the U.N. voted on Monday in response to the regime's nuclear provocations.

"These sanctions are just now taking effect," McMaster said. "What's really important, is rigorous enforcement of those sanctions, so that we can really let the economic actions and diplomacy progress as best we can."

McMaster emphasized the United States was "out of time" in regards to North Korea, and that a "military option" exists and could be used if necessary.

"But I think we ought to make clear, what's different about this approach is that we're out of time," he said. "As Ambassador Haley said before, we've been kicking the can down the road, and we're out of road," he said.

"And so, for those who have said and been commenting about the lack of a military option, there is a military option," he said.

McMaster emphasized, however, that the United States would prefer not to act militarily, and called for international cooperation to counteract the nuclear Kim regime.

"Now, it's not what we would prefer to do. So what we have to do is call on all nations – call on everyone to do everything we can to address this global problem short of war," he said.
