Default The National D Day Memorial - Bedford, Virginia
On the morning of June 6, 1944, in those violent minutes between the time the Higgins boats ramps dropped and the infantry fought their way off Omaha beach, the little town of Bedford, Virginia, lost 19 of her own.

Two more Bedford sons would die before the Longest Day ended.

And yet another two during the Normandy campaign.

No other American city or town lost so many in one day.

Because of this exemplary sacrifice, Bedford was selected by our nation to be the home of the National D Day Memorial.

The memorial was dedicated in 2001.


First view upon entering the memorial is the Overlord Arch.

The Arch is exactly 44 feet 6 inches tall.
