liệu chính thức, số du khách nước ngoài
tới Việt Nam trong 7 tháng đầu năm nay là
1 triệu 200 ngàn người, giảm 32% so với
cùng thời gian này năm ngoái. Việt Nam hy vọng
có 2 triệu du khách tới viếng thăm trong
năm nay, so với 2 triệu 600 ngàn người
của năm ngoái.

Most people are curious, going to Hanoi to see the VC monkeys trying
to parade as humans!

That and seeing first-hand the last place on earth plagued with
shameful poverty, destitution, hopelessness, exploitation, abuses,
corruption, prositution, vices, miseries.... by the incompetent,
lazy, corrupt VC's.

It's disheartening that most people I met in Singapore, Thailand,
Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong ...just shook their heads in
disbelief when I
mentioned going to Vietnam for a tour!!!

They were correct! Born and raised in Vietnam, I could not stand the
extremely polluted air, tributaries flooded with raw sewage, rotten
garbage everywhere and the constant nagging and begging by peddlars
and children in Hanoi and Saigon!

There is virtually no entertaiment or recreation anywhere in Vietnam
besides gambling, drugs and prostitution. The communist governemnt and
vendors are all out gouging tourists, for example, US$3 per minute
phone calls overseas!

That's why the repeat visit rate to Vietnam is only 10% compared to
80% in Thailand!

Comrade Cao Ky is badly mistaken!

I never wished to vacation in Vietnam while in Mexico! I caught
120-lbs marlin and 40-lbs tunas in Mexico spending US$50 on a
chartered boat, whereas it would cost me roughly US$120 to chase
Vietnamese 1-lbs tunas!

I have no desire to go to Vietnam for vacation because of the severe
pollution problems in every city of the air, water ways and public
places, and the horrible poverty that creates constant streams of
begging and peddling children into the wee hours of the night, and the
corruption of the police and government officials who look for every
chance to shake down foreign tourists.

In addition, Communist Vietnam has very little wholesome entertainment
and recreation. Everywhere in Vietnam, most of the offers are along
the line of gambling, drugs and prostitution.

On top of that, the costs of everything for tourists are very high for
very low quality lodging, food, transportation, services....

I was with a foreign tour going from Saigon to Hanoi. The drivers for
state-owned tour companies are paid very little, 500,000 VN dong or
about US$30 for 2 weeks drive, so they were constantly
harassing/begging the tourist for tips.

The drivers would stay up virtually all night gambling among
themselves in those packed rooms provided to the drivers by
state-owned hotels, then get out of the room at 6AM and start washing
their vans down, ready to drive on.

They also rush to get to the destinations early so they can dump the
tourists quickly to make extra money carrying local passengers and
goods for hire. The tour van drivers carry passengers, chickens, pigs,
vegetables....and pocket the extra money as a perk for their hard
jobs. This causes many fatal van/bus accidents on Highway 1, the only
highway, 2 narrow, winding dangerous lanes built by the French some 60
years ago, bombed by the Americans, presently maintained/repaired by
hands with shovels and buckets by Vietnamese.

I befriended a few drivers and lived with them on the road to
experience the workers' life in Vietnam. I found a lot of touching
stories of hard lives behind the fancy facades to lure foreign
tourists.

Like the shop keepers on the beach of Hoi An who must pay 50,000 VN
dong tax (about US$4) everyday when only a handful tourists would be
around to buy their 5,000 VN dong soft drinks.

Like the pretty, highly educated girls in Nha Trang with multiple
college degrees who have to wait on tables for starving salaries
because there is no other jobs to be found.

Like the singers/dancers who put up elaborate 3 hour shows every night
for a handful of tourists hoping for the tips that never come.

Like the hotel gardener who complained that he cannot feed his family
being laid off every few weeks when tourist load is low, and who had
to start a local whorehouse to supplement income. He did mention that
the hotel manager, a VCP member, was aware of his extra career and
gave him the ultimatum to quit pimping or lose his job.

Like the old rice farmers in the Mekong delta who cannot earn enough
to live on and must depend on periodic donations from children in the
US.

Like the legions of old women in Hanoi who labor to clean the street
and pick up truck loads of garbage at 3AM every morning.

Like the thousands Hanoi peddlers, men, women, children selling
everything on the streets, hoping to make 5,000 VN dong (US$0.30) a
day to live on.

On the same Hanoi streets, in trendy coffee houses and bars, groups of
young men and women, children of wealthy VCP members, wear expensive
designer clothes and accessories, spending US$300-US$500 a night
entertaining one another, talking about, planning lavish trips
overseas...

The abuses and corruption and the extreme disparity in power and
wealth between the common people and the ruling elites, created by the
VCP, turns me off completely. I cannot enjoy a vacation where
exploitation, abuses and inequality are so obvious and seem to be
fatefully accepted.

I found far better values for vacation and recreation and have much
better times in Mexico, the Caribbean, Thailand, Malaysia, Bali,
Lompoc etc...

Vietnam desperately needs vast improvements in many aspects of life
but it's obvious to me that she is moving backward with the current VC
regime.

TO be very fair and truthful, I can say that the Republic of Vietnam
30 years a go allowed her citizens more freedoms, more oportunities,
better equality and better protection under her laws, in the middle of
a long war against VC's subversion and terrorism, than the VCP grants
its citizens today!

Unless you are absolutely truthful with yourself, you can never
improve!
