Default Arlington For Trevor

Written by Jeremy Spillman and Dave Turnbull.
? Universal / Songs of the Village / EMI April Music / Sea Gayle Music.
From "Songs About Me", ? 2005, Capitol Records.
Produced by Scott Hendricks.

Cut from Trace Adkins CD

I never thought that this is where I'd settle down.
I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown.
They gave me this plot of land,
Me and some other men, for a job well done.

There's a big White House sits on a hill just up the road.
The man inside, he cried the day they brought me home.
They folded up a flag and told my Mom and Dad:
"We're proud of your son."

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done.
I can rest in peace;
I'm one of the chosen ones:
I made it to Arlington.

I remember Daddy brought me here when I was eight.
We searched all day to find out where my grand-dad lay.
And when we finally found that cross,
He said: "Son, this is what it cost to keep us free."

Now here I am, a thousand stones away from him.
He recognized me on the first day I came in.
And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels,
And saluted me.

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done.
I can rest in peace;
I'm one of the chosen ones:
I made it to Arlington.

And everytime I hear twenty-one guns,
I know they brought another hero home to us.

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done.
We can rest in peace;
'Cause we are the chosen ones:
We made it to Arlington.

Yeah, dust to dust,
Don't cry for us:
We made it to Arlington.

Hope this gives you some comfort Travis....Sis

Trav, you might have talked him into pursuing SF, but at some point it was all on him. First he had to volunteer to go airborne, then he had to want it bad enough to make it. Then he had to volunteer for SF and be good enough to qualify, then want it bad enough to make it. Trevor sounds like he was a professional soldier that knew the risks, and made the decision to take them. It was all on him like, ultimately, it was on all of us that volunteered to dance with the devil. The world is a little less safe without him.

Nobody has so many friends that they can afford to lose one, and I'm sorry for the loss of one of yours my young friend. Condolences to Trevor's family, and a sharp Airborne hand salute to him. May he rest in peace.

Trav, In 91' we had that elusive go ahead from the UN to clear Iraqi troops out of Kuwait and our Coalition that every one else claims we needed this time existed to do just that. After we all did a Good Job liberating Kuwait the naysayers that said that we would come home in thousands of Body-bags wanted the US to finish off Saddam. Now that we the US have done that the same congressmen that complained we didn't go far enough in 1991 are complaining that the President went into Iraq under false pretense? makes you wonder if a Bush president can ever do anything correct in the eyes of Teddy and Kerry?
Travis thankyou again for your service with us over there and we all did good! I hope that the youngsters serving there this time come back to the same Celebrations we received! But, with this batch of political naysayers this time it looks like some will get the 73' welcoming committee of Protesters and spiteful idjits!
To all that served Past,Present, and Future god bless and welcome home

And Prayers for Trevor Diesing's Family for their Loss
