Default BEER! It's not just for breakfast anymore!

http://www.doubleagent.com/show_brie...briefing_id=95

Beer ? Turns out it's actually good for you!

Your girl keeps replacing your Budweiser with a Pinot Noir because she says it's good for you. News flash ? research shows that beer contains the same health benefits as red wine. So the next time she complains about you reaching for a cold one, rattle off some of these facts that we've compiled.

Banish the Beer Gut
Pop quiz time. Which has fewer calories and carbohydrates? Orange juice, low-fat milk, or Guinness? No you're not dreaming, the answer is the beer.

Time to Drink Your Vitamins
Many cardiologists recommend a drink a day to help prevent heart attacks. A recent University of Wisconsin study found that moderate consumption of stouts worked like aspirin to prevent blood clots. It's actually twice as effective as light-colored beers at preventing clots because of antioxidants and vitamin B, which keep bad cholesterol from clogging arteries. Blocked arteries can also contribute to erectile dysfunction.

See No Evil, Drink No Evil
Canadian researchers have also found that the moderate consumption of stout might also reduce the incidence of cataracts by as much as 50 percent.
Tests showed that antioxidants that act similarly to those in beer protect the mitochondria of cells in the eye. Damage to the mitochondria can lead to an increased incidence of cataracts, especially in people with diabetes.

The Next Best Thing to an Adamantium Skeleton
Beer gives you strong bones, too. (But it's not that good on cereal.) A recent study showed that beer protects bone-mineral density because of its high levels of silicon, which allows the deposit of calcium and other minerals into bone tissue.

Doctors suggest that males should drink up to two beers a day in order to get any of the benefits, though. Sounds tough.

ADDITIONAL INTELLIGENCE:
One German brewery is touting "Anti-Aging Beer," which contains added minerals, flavanoids, spring water, and seaweed. It launched at an agricultural fair earlier this year to swarms of curious Germans. The Hotel Esplanade in the spa town of Bad Saarow is even offering a "beer package," where patrons can take a warm beer bath in a copper tub while downing the drink in a dimly lit relaxation room. Sounds like heaven.

Works for me. After years of beer drinking I am 57 and look like a young 56 year old. Gotta try harder!

Default sure could use a cold one

This is a photo I found of some of us members of the End Zone Militia that was taken just after the Patriots beat the Dolphins in December of 2003. I'm on the far left, under the goal posts. It was a damn cold night and I'm wearing lots of wool clothing and a fur hat, though you really can't see it all that well. It was even colder a few weeks later during the Pats-Titans game when it got down to minus 20...and that was a night game, too! All told, including clothes, musket and extraneous equipment, I was carrying an extra 42 pounds that night, and when you weigh as much as I do, that's a LOT of extra strain on the knees and back. I wish those guys at Valley Forge and Morristown had invented thermal underwear. It'd make my job a lot easier today.[/b]

Guinness the breakfast of champions!

One suggestion...don't try to chug a pint.

!. it will fill you up way too fast.
2. it will make your head swim.

My hubby and his best bud tried it.....................once.

DL,

Way too late with that advise. I've chugged many a pint of Guinness and never regretted one of them.
