Peace In Iraq - We Shall See?

Well, now Iraq has a new Constitution, and her fairy godmother has waved the magical wand of peace and tranquility? A panacea and a wondrous transformation will now automatically sweep this nation of eternal strife, and swords will be instantaneously beaten into plow sheers!

The hostile and hateful attitudes of centuries, will now be transformed into brotherly love, and the bloodshed and intolerance of decades will be forever forgotten and abandoned! After all, and like that revelation delivered from the deck of an aircraft carrier just a few moons ago - the powers that be have so decreed! "And as such, the world must indeed take heed of this god-like dictate!"

Well, those who think this is all that it takes to enact positive change or to turn a sow?s ear into a silk purse, had damned well better think again, for in my opinion, it is all wishful thinking! We just may end up pulling out of this region in disgust, claim a political victory of sorts, and accomplish little more than the crusaders did millennia ago, or we accomplished in Vietnam or Somalia - these people, after all, are what they are, in my opinion!

Just because we were privy to a miracle of sorts back in 1776, in that we created a workable democracy in a time when the world had been conditioned to the rule of despots, dictators and absolutes, does not mean that the same formula will work on a planet-wide scale! Unfortunately, some people do indeed thrive (and even get off) on being trampled under foot! It is, unfortunately, the nature of the beast! If they do not have to think for themselves, some people become as content as pregnant cows!

And like it or not, those who do become democratized, often utilize this blessing as an excuse to suck us dry. The original "Domestically Conservative, Foreign Liberal, Bleeding Heart" (at our expense) scenario!

Is this a dogmatic way to think - you bet your rump it is, and indeed, I wish it were not so! Time, however, has proven that some of those whom you offer a hand of friendship and assistance to, often demand the whole arm!

And as far as the Middle East goes, all that we may have accomplished there is - the elimination of one vicious thug, making way for yet another to take his place! ?AND A BLOODY EXCHANGE IT IS!?

Again, we will just have to wait and see what shakes lose in "The Land of The 40 Thieves" - no magic lamps or Edens revisited here I fear!!
