Thumbs down San Diego Under Fire Again?

With the ?Powers That Be? claiming (erroneously in my opinion) that the United States has 25% more military bases than it needs, a bi-partisan effort is underway to save San Diego?s uniformed community! ?And for the record, San Diego boasts the largest military complex in the entire U. S. of A.!!?

California, which is ideally situated for a military presence, currently has some 60 such bases within the State. This, however, may not be the case for long if some in Washington DC get their way! And with about 150,000 civilian employees? jobs also at stake if base closures continue in the Golden State, many a shaky-side politico is also beginning to feel the heat, and in turn, is transferring the flames of discontent eastward to Washington DC!

In an effort to save California?s military bases, a united and bi-partisan front has been established here on the Westside. This includes Congressman Bob Filner (D), Congressmen Hunter and Cunningham (R), and even the mayor of San Diego Himself - Dick Murphy.

The military (all branches) is also getting in on the act by offering, among other things, to bring the helicopters down from Camp Pendleton to Miramar NAS to save money! And naturally, with the threat of the possible closure of the San Diego MCRD and North Island, as well as numerous other bases around the region, our preparedness would suffer greatly from such a foolish move! And this at a time when new enemies are beginning to surface almost daily!

The old saying about being ?Penny Smart and Pound-Foolish? is fast becoming the axiom of military spending. For without a ?Well-Supplied, Ever-Ready, Twenty-First Century, United States Military Machine? we could quickly find ourselves in dire straits!

We now face a different kind of enemy than we have at almost any time during our brief existence. One that is sneaky as Hell, dedicated to our destruction, cowardly, and as slimy as a greased snake - and this, all at the same time! And if we are going to prevail against this type of enemy, we must remain ever vigilant and good to go on a second?s notice!

This can not be accomplished by cutting the throat of our military, but rather by keeping said military the best prepared in the entire world!
