Thumbs up Dad On Duty

Students at Northern Granville Middle School in Oxford, N.C., didn't have to wait long for a substitute when teacher Brian Harvey went to Iraq in 2003 with his National Guard unit.

Brian's father, Boyce, retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to teach his son's technology education classes.

Yesterday's Durham Herald-Sun reports that Brian returned to the U.S. last month and says the memory of his pupils inspired him in Iraq: "Knowing that you have students back here that you made an impression on their life, it helped keep me going."
