Bear kills 5 month old...

...My heart goes out to the parent's, and relitives of a 5 month old girl that was killed by a black bear here in N.Y. yesterday at 2:40 in the afternoon while "camping/retreating" in the "Catskills mnts."...

...less then 3 weeks ago, my wife ran into one down there while we were camping, ( by the size of the one in the news listed at 155lbs, hers was 350 lbs), around 10 / 10:30 at night...

...I spoke to conservation officers, and they know how bad it can get, but they can only make "recomendations" to places that are privately owned, and the owners are failing to dissuade the bears by shooting them with the "rubber bullets" that NY ENCON has provided them with...

... they "quietly" told us when we arrived there, that "a few sightings" had been seen, but after the first night we were there, 3 sites were invaded by bears, and the people packed up, and left without complaining...

...so we're out in the "orange section, and we're the only one's left tenting,... the second night is when my wife was on her way to the shower, when she crossed paths between the dumpster, and the bear... she screemed, and my dog went balistic, and tree'd the bear, I hit it with a light, and I hunt big game, and in my mind I said, "sh!t, that's a big SOB",... when it got down from the first tree, and stood up on it's hind legs, it was taller then me, and weighed a lot more, and the only thing I hoped was that there wasn't a couple of cubs around,... it walked less then 10" and climbed another pine, and sat on the "dump station sign"(doesn't that beat all"...

... so I loaded the 30/30, and hoped the owner would come down, and "pop" it once, as the talk of the sites was that "sammy, the mgr" had the rubber bullets, and ?????

...he yelled at me for yelling at the bear, and told me to leave it alone, and it would go away, and I told him , "f*#k you, and to get the hell up to his mgr. shack, and get his f*#kin' shotgun, and whack this girl in the ass"...

...I didn't tell him I had my firearms, and it's because their brochure said "no firearms", and I don't hear so good...

...I didn't tell him that it was loaded rather quickly, and laying under the nose of my truck either, but what the hell is a person supposed to do under those circumstances, piss in it's eye when they get that close,... while it was up the second tree, and my dog never shut up, , and assholes are starting to show up, taking pictures, and blinding me on the otherside in the campsite, I got riled, and told them all to get the f*#k out of there in no uncertain terms...

...I just didn't know what to expect when the "momma" came down the second time, and after 10 minutes in the tree, I knew it wasn't too happy, It did come down, and headed out around the outskirts of our site, but I wasn't gonna take any chances,...

...F*#k um', I take my firearms with me where ever I can, and what do you think would have happened to me as a legal hunter that ended up shooting a bear in a private camp grounds that was threatening my family... would they pull my "priviledges" of hunting, no I didn't but I think the mgr should have "poped" it...

I'm sorry, but I have to ask;

What numbnuts lets a bear get within a hundred yards of their 5-month old? According to the story I read, they left the child on the porch in the sun and went around the other side of the cabin. With everything that's happening to children these days? I dunno-something's fishy.

...different ethnic groups head up into the mountians here in NY, and have absolutly no clue about being in the "wild"...

...from what I found out, the bear made it's way into the camping area, and was spotted, and the woman grabbed her other two children , and ushered them inside quickly...,... but the bear was already in their parameter...,... it's dense up here out side the "cities", and the bears are making themselves right at home,... if it's any sign as to how hard winter is going to be , by how the bears are foraging, it will be a hard one,... they don't care who, or what they encounter, two of the 3 sites that were raided the night before with us had dogs, and it didn't faze them one bit, mine's part rottie, and has a bark, but not the full sized...

...I don't think anything is fishey regarding this incident, only inexperience on the mother's behalf with dealing with wild life,...

...I only hope this one incedent will be a wake up call to every camp owner to take nesc steps to safeguard their patrons in the future...

...someone supposedly took pics of the one we encountered a few weeks ago, as my friend has had a camp there for the last 5 years, although he has said he has never seen one, it was just my luck to run into "momma" the 2nd time we were there, if he gets one, I'll post it up, or send it to David...
