Ron
The smaller pair of wings are jump wings. Those are the guys who can never wait for the plane to land to get to the ground. The large set are aviation wings. I?d guess this guy was once a chopper pilot.

Air Assault Wings are a Helicopter with wings around it. They are not the same as the Parachute Badge which is a Parachute with wings around it. The Air Assault Badge is also called "the Bullwinkle Badge" because the Helo with wings looks like Bullwinkle the Moose.
You have to go to jump school and get your 5 chump jumps to qual the Parachute badge. You must attend the Air Assault School to get the Bullwinkle Badge. He has done both. When I was trying to get my friend Dan a 327th Bn crest, I called Ft. Campbell and talked to the 327th SgtMaj. He sent me the crests for free, and a Bullwinkle, GI issue, badge for me. He told me if you were Air Cav you guys wrote the book on Air Assault, and wanted me to have one. I was honored. I wore it to a VN Vet welcome home parade where I met Westy and a CMH, from Nam, now a General. The General saw my Bullwinkle Badge and asked if I went to the Air Assualt school? I said, no sir, explained how I got it, then said, I'd better take it off. He and Westy laughed and said, "You were Cav, you earned it. Don't you dare take it off." I again felt embarrassed and honored. This is a true, no shit guys this really happened, story. Packo

Ron, you may also wear
Foreign wings on the right side of your uniform, I can wear VN jump wings for jumps with the VN LLDB or German wings for jumps with GSG9. I pinned on my sons "Blood Wings" here is a picture taken right after his jump school.

I know that feeling of pride. My father made jumps at Sicily, Normandy and Holland. He pinned his original jump wings on me when I graduated from jump school. Nothing could be better than being a second generation paratrooper.
Regards, Paul
