Curtis,

I don't have a site right now but key in google.com and then St Paul CA-73 and the dates. You might come up with something.

Tell him to run don't walk if he has been dx with AO symptoms to the VA and put in a claim. My bro was speaking to another brother at the VA the other day. Turns out the brother had been fighting AO related cancer fortwo*&^%%$# years and NO one told him he was automatic for 100% disability. Bro gave him the heads up and my Sis in law filled in the blanks while Bro went into see the Doc. They got phone numbers and e-mail address's to follow up on him.

Thanks for caring Curtis.Sis

Comments: Greaqt site! I was a "Main Battery" FTG on board USS New Jersey BB-62, USS St. Paul CA-73, USS Providence CLG-6, and USS Oklahoma City CLG-5. I was Leading Chief on the Providence, which was re-gunning in Subic Bay, when we learned of the turret explosion on Newport News. GMG2 Hawker, one of those killed, was a friend and former shipmate of mine. Thanks to those responsible for this site, who ensured that they won't be forgotten.

Curtis,

I was aboard the St. Paul once doing some TAD things. We called her the St. Pauline, LOL. The St. Paul was unique in that she hadn?t been converted to add AA missile batteries as the rest of the Baltimore Class Cruisers had. So she was right out of WWII in the same trim except for modern Radar, commo gear and ECM. Because of her three 8inch 50 cal turret guns plus all the 5 inch 38 cals and 3 inch 50 cals she was a busy Lady for sure and did a lot of the heavy lifting when it came to shoot outs with the PAVN field arty. Page 77 of the book ?The US Navy in the Vietnam War? has a picture of the St. Paul making smoke and dodging some incoming PAVN field arty shells. She?s bracketed sure enough but served up a real pounding in return that day. The author of the book is Edward J Marolda.
