War Hero Laid to Rest at Home
(Pittsfield, MA - WRGB) ? Thirty six years after his death, Pittsfield's most decorated World War 2 hero had a proper military burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery on Saturday. Army Sergeant Joseph Elsensohn, a paratrooper who survived three major invasions and received a purple heart, drifted away from his family when he returned home from the war. He died in California in 1968, and was buried in a pauper's grave. But, his daughter and Pittsfield veterans' groups stepped up efforts in the last five years to bring his remains back home.
