Default ...a periodic update on the USS Midway

Welcome to Ship to Shore, a periodic update on the USS Midway, the Navy?s longest-serving carrier now ?deployed? as an immensely popular naval aviation museum in San Diego!

TBM Avenger Arrives on Midway
The Midway Museum is working toward expanding its ?air wing? to include WWII-vintage aircraft. On November 10, a TBM-3 Avenger torpedo bomber was gently lifted onto Midway and towed to a prominent position on the hangar deck. The TBM with its signature revolving rear gun turret first saw combat in the Battle of Midway in 1942. Midway has other WWII-era aircraft in the restoration pipeline as well. We anticipate a Douglas SBD Dauntless will arrive in 2007. We?ll keep you posted as the date becomes finalized.

Midway Memories Almost a Sellout

The first edition of the unique book of photos taken by USS Midway sailors?Midway Memories?is almost sold out only seven months after its debut! We?ve ordered a second edition and have held enough first-edition copies in reserve as the perfect Holiday Season gift. So now?s the time to order one or more so autographed copies can arrive in plenty of time as a ?lifetime memory? like no other. Visit www.midwaymagic.com to place your gift order.

USS Midway on Network TV
The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition television program on ABC is scheduled to broadcast an episode on Sunday, November 19, that was partially filmed aboard the Midway in San Diego! A deserving family visited San Diego while their Wisconsin home was being renovated and their trip to Midway was recorded. They even watched video clips of their home repairs from the flight deck of Midway. The Midway portion is sure to be brief, but it will reach more than 15 million homes across the country. Check your local listings for an episode description that might include ?Koepke family? or ?Wisconsin.?

In Town for New Year?s Eve?
Imagine celebrating the New Year aboard the Midway! For the third consecutive year, a catering partner of Midway?Peartrees Catering?is organizing a New Year?s Eve dinner party with proceeds benefiting the museum. It will feature an evening of spectacular views, champagne, sumptuous dinner, and dancing to the Big Daddy Orchestra. The cost is $139/person, inclusive. Black tie is optional. Discounts at nearby hotels also are available. For more information, call Peartrees at (619) 575-5500 or visit online at www.peartreescatering.com .
