Hi zag, and welcome to the site.

Do you have access to the O.R.? I got several hits on CSA Marines including several names. From there, you can go to www.google.com and do a search on "John R F Tattnall," "Commodore Leon Smith," and "Santa Rosa Island." You can also see some good info at www.csanavy.org.

These are just a few. There are a bunch of hits in O.R. that I didn't check out too.

Hi zag,
O.R. stands for the "Official Records." It is a compilation of official records from both the Union and Confederacy. Most large libraries have a set. I considered buying my own set once until I found out that a good used set went for around $2,000-$3,000. You would need a really big book case too since the set has 20-something volumes. I found it on cd from www.guildpress.com for $69.95. They call it "The Civil War CD-ROM." They also have "The Civil War CD-ROM2" which is the Official Records of the Navy. It may have more info on what you are looking for.

Don't be a stranger; jump in on any of the discussions around here, or even start your own.

CORRECTION:

zag, I said that the O.R. has 20-something volumes. Make that 127 volumes.
