Kerry challenges Bush to Vietnam war debate

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The two leading Democrats seeking to challenge
Republican President George W. Bush appealed to voters in interviews
published Sunday as frontrunner John Kerry challenged the president to
debate their Vietnam war-era military service.

In separate appearances on ABC television's "Face the Nation," Kerry,
a senator from Massachusetts, and North Carolina Senator John Edwards
each sought to convince voters he would be the best Democrat to
challenge Bush.

Kerry, who holds a wide lead in the race for the 2,162 delegates
needed to secure the nomination at the party's national convention in
Boston in July, has sought to focus the campaign on Bush.

Edwards is hoping to win enough delegates in the March 2 "Super
Tuesday" primaries in 10 states to keep his underdo...
