MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Cali. --
At approximately 09:33 a.m. (PST) Wednesday, an amphibious assault vehicle caught fire in a land-based training accident on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton injuring 14 Marines and a Navy Sailor from 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment and 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion. The units were conducting a combat readiness evaluation as part of scheduled battalion training at the time of the incident.

At this time, all service members are receiving the highest quality medical care at the appropriate facilities.

All next-of-kin of the injured service members have been notified.

The 1st Marine Division would like to thank the civilian and military emergency personnel who responded immediately to the situation, and we would also like to recognize the extraordinary efforts of all the medical personnel currently caring for our service members. Our thoughts and prayers are with the service members and their families affected by this accident.

Officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident at this time.
