Angry Twice The Victim

Now nobody begrudges the fact that people (even tow services) are in business to make money. But when the Grinch and Scrooge team up to stick the minced-meat to "Christmas Present", then something is amiss in the land of tinsel and gingerbread!

Case in point: A few days back a likable young father of two was stopped amidst the heavy traffic at an interchange in San Diego. The traffic was stopped, all legally waiting to merge from I-15 Southbound to I-8 East.

All of a sudden, a gal yaking away on her cell-phone, her mind a million miles away, slammed at high speed into the back of the small pick-up being driven by the young man, knocking him unconscious and staving in the back of the small mini-pick-up!

The young man awoke to banging on the side window, the gal was apparently unhurt as she bellowed forth that she had not been paying attention. Shortly thereafter, an ambulance arrived along with a CHP Officer. The young man was transported to a local hospital for a series of tests and examinations. It was determined that the lad had a severe concussion, neck and back injuries among others.

Now this is where the fun and games really begin! With the lad off to the hospital, his pride and joy (truck) was hauled off to a multi-police facility, somewhere in backwater San Diego. The cost $141 plus $26 per-day thereafter! Now mind you, there was no doubt of liability, but yet the kid was tagged with this victim?s-charge, or his car remained at this impound lot accruing charges until eventually it could be sold off!

Yes, the lad had insurance and his license and papers were all in order. And again, liability was not in question, and he was off unconscious to semi-conscious to the closest hospital! He is a hard working employee, on his way home from work, who is well liked and respected, soon to enter the Coast Guard I think, a young family man, and a credit to the community. Yet, a gal traveling with a cell phone stuck in her ear, slammed into the back of his legally stopped vehicle, admitted error, and yet the true victim now has a severely banged up truck and body, is in great pain, requires extensive treatment and therapy, and is still being hung out to dry for nothing more than being the victim of an un-attentive, careless driver with a cell phone stuck in her ear!

To infuriate matters even more, the young man is a state certified EMT who has himself come to the rescue of several injured motorists and pedestrians alike in the past!

How do I know all of this you ask - the young man is my son!

Simple rule of the road; dumb drivers have the right of way.
