Smile Happy Birthday, M1 Rifle !!

On January 9, 1936, the rifle, US, cal 30 M1 (Garand) was adopted as the STANDARD "A" rifle for the US Services, replacing the 1903 Springfield as Standard "A".

Gen. George Patton called the M1 the "greatest battle implement ever devised".

hey rigger...it was my pride and joy and
the G I that had it before me had done one hell of a zeroing in...i never missed
and no maggie's drawers ever...
one mighty fine piece!!!
i learned early on not to ever call it a
'gun'...

Ah!!!! The fond memories......of the M-1 Thumb and that bloody arc on the side of my dress whites as I marched on parade!!

Bill,

Nobody is a bonifide member of the M1 Familiarity Club until
they have chambered their thumb at least once.

During the civil war soldiers worried about keeping their fingers intact while poking stuff down the muzzle.
With the M1 we still have the same problem, only at the other end of the weapon. Go figure!
