Default To Those Who Gave Us Their All

________________________________________
To Those Who Gave Us Their All

Born to promise - a spark of light,
In our nation's defense they fought the fight,
With honor and courage, they served with pride,
And for God and Country, there they died.

They asked not for credit, but served beside,
Men of courage who also died,
For this their nation, they lay and bled,
Where many a tear was also shed.

Now they lie down in fields of red,
Where many a boot has also tred,
For they were soldiers - tried and true,
And they fought the fight like many of you.

They ask not for credit, but only a thought,
It was not a medal that they sought,
And now as they lie beneath the blue,
I pray that you yet love them, as much as they loved you!

Arrow Great Post HC

Great Post HC
-
It goes to say - those of us who returned - carry the
thoughts of those we lost!
-
Many came back with the scars & memories of those days.
-
My two tours - brought me to Da Nang twice.
-
My best Bud George Yocum and I grew up together
and we both were at NAM. George got cut in-half
by a breach-blowout on a field gun. His Father
came to welcome me when I came home.
-
My brother Larry was there for one term and later
came down with Agent Orange - but did father a
child prior to his passing.
-
Five other guys from our neighborhood were
also KIA - but - I made it back. It wasn't a pleasant
greeting for many and the fallen were costly.
-
My Grand-Father was in WWI - His son's both
served as well in WWII. My uncles were also
in Korea & WWII - Army - Marines - Navy - & Air Force.
Their all gone now and I'm last of the family they have
all passed - all enlisted and served in both for Korea &
WW and enlisted (not drafted).
-
I did two tours to NAM - many had fallen and many more
were wounded - it was God awful to see and live through it.
-
I have one Bud - I still converse with from Lancaster PA
- we talk a few times on the phone still. Morris's father
was a Marine in WWII - and he recently passed.
-
I thank God for the VFW I go to - [Post 6448 in Dyer, IN.].
We have many exchanges and/or discussions on WW-1,
WWII, Korea and NAM.
-
I go there 3 or 4 times a week for a couple quick beers
than go home. It's next door to the Hospital - and only
takes 15 min. get home - depending on traffic.
-
I've made arrangements that when I die - that I will be
cremated and buried in a military site in our area.
-
Wife wants to be cremated and buried with her Mother.
(Her wishes will be made).
-
Periodically we have a few WWI 90 year old Vets - drop in.
Though in the last few months we've buried four of them.
[as they say - nobody lives fore-ever].
-
Storming real bad right now and raining like the dickens!
-
I give your poem 5-Stars. All waring is hard to forget or
overlook. I grew up with my Grand-Father & Uncle's and
I would listen to their war stories of Hell & Back.
-
I wasn't pressured to enlist - I wanted to go - I wanted
to add to the Family history of those who went before
me. It wasn't pleasant and what I saw was damming and
God awful - but that's war!
-
I even today reflect on those I saw get killed - its in my
head and flash-backs are common - from what I've been
told.
-
The VFW I go to has a Table with a Bible on it. I go to the
table and put my hand on the Bible and talk to the guys that
were killed - or wounded. God Bless them all!
-
Our Flag still fly's (24-7) - and it will as long as we have personnel
willing to fight for it - and it's - long standing for freedoms.
-
Today our society is in flux - I'm not happy with the outcome
of its current demeanor today! Yes - I'm worried! The splintered
verbiage of the disenchanted by many - is very concerning!
-
What's on the horizon isn't looking good - no matter who wins
the internal kayos - will remain for some time. A divided Nation
will Fall - its been said - more than once - and its heart-breaking!
-
Many have died for this country and for others! Their sacrifice
must mean something - or they've died for nothing!
-
I'm tired of the disgusting media & political handling of these
ongoing internal & splintered operations within our country.
-
If we are not United - "WE WILL FALL" - no two ways about it!
-
We need to sweep the rugs - and clean-up the ongoing political
verbiage being said!
-
It's a damn shame to watch and see such ongoings within our Nation!
-
I'm not as created in my verbiage such as you HC - but I'm pissed
that we've reached this point - within our Nation & the world is watching.

Once again - HC great poem (*****)! You are the Man!

This poem is for D-Day as well as Memorial Day.

My father who fought in the Navy during WWII died today 6 June 1996. He was 72 years old.

Always remember D-Day and the men who fought at Normandy.
