Relevance of Vietnam War fades for young Americans
(EXCERPT) 03/02/04 James F. Sweeney Plain Dealer Reporter It's been nearly 29 years since the last helicopter lifted off the roof of the American embassy in Saigon. Since then, the nation slowly has come to grips with the war. A memorial was built in Washington, D.C. Veterans are admired, not scorned. Vietnam and the United States have normalized relations. And as the people who fought the war, protested against it or just debated it around the kitchen table age into their 50s and 60s, their children are forgetting it. For them, Vietnam was three wars and a few military adventures ago. What they know about it mostly comes from histo... U.S. and friendly nation laws prohibit fully reproducing copyrighted material.
