Ron...you missed a good one yesterday, our main pumper burned to the ground.

It seems that the land owner was burning some garbage next to a corn field. The wind came up and the next thing he knew the field was ablaze. We were paged out at around 1630 and I and another guy were on the brush buggy at the far side of the field, we hear the chief screaming over the radio to return to the fill site and when we topped the hill it was all over. The pumper sat there smoldering in a big black heap! We later found out that after the wind switch and they tried to move the pumper that it was stuck in the mud and almost out of water and than the flames started coming and all they could do is scream into the radio and run. Damn shame, that was a very nice truck. I will try to get pics tomorrow and post them before they haul it away.

Default Pumper

We are in the process of hooking external sprinkler systems to our pumpers and Ladders.
Pumpers are $350,000.00 and Ladders are $500,000.00 It only makes sence to protect them.
I think it should be a manditory thing from the factory.

One of the coolest experiences was the time that nobody wanted to use their Scott Packs while they were putting out an attic fire in a newly renovated house......A heat lamp was placed too close to the plants, and the pot was on fire......Whoever heard of a brush fire in an attic?

Chief didn't get mad at us for disobeying orders that day.

However, I was most proud when every department on Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk) sent at least one truck to a parade down the Long Island Expressway to demonstrate our support for the troops. It was a beautiful sight, flashing lights as far as the eye can see. On that clear day, there were fire trucks forever.....
