Poll: Bush's Ohio approval rating dips below 50 percent

CINCINNATI -

President Bush's approval rating in Ohio has dipped below 50 percent
for the first time in his presidency, reported a poll released
Wednesday, less than two weeks before the state's primary election.

The Ohio Poll, conducted and sponsored by the University of
Cincinnati's Institute of Policy Research, found that 49 percent of
Ohioans approved of Bush's job performance, 49 percent disapproved and
2 percent had no opinion.

The results are similar to the 51 percent approval rating Bush
received nationally in a recent Gallup poll, Ohio Poll officials said.

The Ohio Poll found that Bush's job approval rating was 76 percent
last April, less than a month into the war in Iraq.

His Ohio approval peaked at 87 percent in November 2001, weeks after
the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Ohio Poll also reported in its latest survey that 47 percent of
those surveyed approved of the way Bush is handling foreign affairs
and 40 percent approved of his handling of the economy.

Those were the lowest marks Bush has received for those categories in
Ohio Poll surveys during his presidency.
