Yes, and what galls me is that by receiving tax benefits churches (and others) are, in effect, subsidized by the government and/or tax payers... if there ever was a clear definition of mingling church and state that has gotta be among the best ones. Many non-profits are prohibited by law from proselytizing about politics of any kind, depending on which part of the code they are designated. As PF considers its own non-profit application to enable grants and tax deductible donations, it will be interesting to see how or if this issue arises in our case. |
