I remember as a kid, that us boys were always looking for entertainment. Any time that we wanted to hear a good string of cussin' we would just ease up by my great-uncle and say, "Patton." You better grab hold of something solid, because you were about to hear a string of cussin' that would blow away pets and small children. My great-uncle was in the infantry that followed Patton's tanks.
General Patton was always controversial. Does anyone have an opinion? Lets hear it.

Have a couple of guys in our church who were with Patton.
"His Guts and Our blood." Proud to belong with Patton's Army. Did have some reservations about his tactics. Thought he could have moved a little more cautiously. Felt he was a great General. Would fight with him again at anytime. They definitely had mixed emotions. But overall were proud to have served under Patton. Yet, they did feel at times it was "His guts and our Blood." "Blood and Guts" Patton.
Interesting way they feel about Patton.

First off: Anyone who actually served in 3rd Army (or anywhere in the ETO) is certainly entitled to their opinion of Gen. G.S. Patton. However, I think its important to challenge the "Our Blood, His Guts" label as it sounds like Hollywood's version of history.

Yes, Gen. Patton had faults that will be argued for as long as people remember his name. However, the thought that Patton avoided putting "His Blood" on the line is pure bull. When one reads Carlo D'Este's biography, about every 10-pages Gen. Patton gets caught in a Luftwaffe straffing run or a German Arty barrage. Patton was never one to be hiding in a bunker or rear-area and it seems a miracle to me that he didn't lose any blood in WW2.

Also, many don't know that he showed similar leadership in the First World War. However, in that conflict he lost a good chunk of his buttocks and spilled penty of his blood on French soil.

The nickname "Old Blood and Guts" was given to him by his detractors and no one dared say it to his face. IMHO, "Old Blood and Guts" is more accurate describing Patton than the corruption that questions if he had the guts to put his blood on the line...
