February 1965 (1st month, Year of the Snake [At Ti]) (US Advisory): The NVA's 101 Regiment has infiltrated into the Central Highlands west of Kontum. (OS)

February 9, 1968 (12th day of the 1st month, Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Tet Counteroffensive): Tiger 782 is shot down while on a resupply mission in IV Corps.

February 9, 1968 (12th day of the 1st month, Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Tet Counteroffensive): Tet-68 update at Hue and Marble Mountain.

February 9, 1968 (12th day of the 1st month, Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Tet Counteroffensive): MACV Forward, under General Creighton B. Abrams, Deputy Commander USMACV, is established in I CTZ at Phu Bai. It is a forward headquarters to monitor operations in the two northern provinces. The two divisions in the sector, the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division (Air Mobile) and the 3rd Marine Division, remain, however, under the operational control of III MAF. (OS)

February 9, 1969 (25th day of the 4th month, Year of the Rooster [Ky Dau])(US Summer-Fall 1969): During a RIF in the Chu Pa region of Pleiku Province, 2nd Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, goes to the assistance of 1st Platoon, Company D, which has been caught in an enemy ambush. The enemy takes 2nd Platoon under fire, too, and three of its men are wounded. A conscientious objector, serving as medical aidman to 2nd Platoon, goes and gets them, under fire all the way; he also retrieves the bodies of several dead Americans during the day.

February 9, 1969 (25th day of the 4th month, Year of the Rooster [Ky Dau])(US Summer-Fall 1969): Operation Taylor Common update: Two platoons of US Marines come under automatic weapons fire and grenade attack near An Hoa during a recon operation.

THIRD INDOCHINA WAR - OTHER
February 9, 1979 (13th day of the 1st month, Year of the Goat [Ky Mui]): The US State Department expresses "serious concern" at the Chinese buildup on the border with Vietnam and similar concern with Vietnamese activity in Cambodia (Kampuchea). (TVW)
