Talking The Wake is Over

Thank God the wake is over and life resumes. I have been up for the most part since last wendsday meeting, greeting, putting up and finding places for relitives. for my Fathers funeral. We had nephews & nieces from every corner of the country. and as far away as Okinawa show up. One hell of alot of catching up to do and alot of food and drink. My Mother always told us about the three day Polock wakes. she was Full Blood Polski and damn proud. well I know she would have been proud of her boys because we finally had to break up the Wake and get- togeather last night when the Bars closed. and this morning.everyone left for God knows where but we all had big heads, Dad would of loved it we saved him a couple shots of Mac. and put the lid back on the bottle and placed it in his coffin. that was the last lid for a bottle I seen for 5 days. then we gave him his pack of smokes, a deck of cards and some change so he could buy his way into a game somewhere. he's all set. So Dad till we meet again keep the games honest and save a drink for me... and the whole Family thanks my family on the patriotfile for your support. ....chris

LT funny you should mention that my next younger brother and I almost got into it at least three times in five days. Thank goodness we didn'nt but drinking and hot tempers don't mix too good. His drinking and my temper.

Default You're a good lad, Chris.

We haven't had a good Irish wake in my family for years now. Both of my parents are first generation Americans, so was always the custom with the elders of the family. It has pretty much died out with us second generation kids. My Dad had pre-arrangements with the Neptune Society. Us kids did put together a memorial service, though. Turned out to be Standing Room Only. As the oldest of us four kids, I might push for a wake for my Mom when the time comes,........hopefully many years from now.

This is reminiscent of some of the wakes in my family .

FINNEGAN'S WAKE

Ah Tim Finnegan lived in Walkin Street,
A gentleman Irish mighty odd
Well he had a brogue both rich and sweet,
An' to rise in the world he carried a hod
Ah but Tim had a sort of tipplin way
With the love of the liquor he was born
And to send him on his way each day,
He'd a drop of the craythur ev'ry morn

One morning Tim was rather full
His head felt heavy which made him shake
He fell off the ladder and he broke his skull
And they carried him home his corpse to wake
Well they rolled him up in a nice clean sheet
And they laid him out upon the bed
With a bottle of whiskey at his feet
And a barrel of porter at his head

Well his friends assembled at the wake
And Mrs. Finnegan called for lunch
Well first they brought in tay and cake
The pipes, tobacco and brandy punch
Then Widow Malone began to cry
'Such a lovely corpse, did you ever see
Arrah, Tim avourneen, why did you die?'
'Will ye hould your gob?' said Molly McGee

Well Mary O'Connor took up the job
'Biddy' says she 'you're wrong, I'm sure'
Well Biddy gave her a belt in the gob
And left her sprawling on the floor
Well civil war did then engage
Woman to woman and man to man
Shillelagh law was all the rage
And a row and a runction soon began

Well Tim Maloney raised his head
When a bottle of whiskey flew at him
He ducked and, landing on the bed
The whiskey scattered over Tim
Bedad he revives, see how he rises
Tim Finnegan rising in the bed
Saying 'Whittle your whiskey around like blazes
T'underin' Jaysus, do ye think I'm dead?'

Post The Wake isn't over yet.

The wake isn't over until you come over and go fly fishing with me. We can make a really big wake.

Keith

Our prayers go out to you and your family.
