11-23-2019 07:05 AM It was probably a sapling when George Washington returned to Mount Vernon in 1783, triumphant after his victory in the Revolutionary War. On Nov. 4, the night caretakers at Mt. Vernon heard it fall, the tree was about 115 feet tall, 12 feet around, and roughly 230 years old. More... |
