My upcoming trout fishing trip ...
Looks like I will finally get a chance to catch some trout ( it will my first time ) this weekend. My wife's aunt has some land and a trailer near the Little Red River not far from Greers Ferry Dam.
Here are some of the records from that area : Michael Huey Manley caught a 38-pound, 9-ounce world record brown trout from the North Fork River, Carl Jones caught a 20-pound, 12-ounce brown trout on 2-pound-test line from the White River, and Howard Rip Collins landed a 40-pound, 4-ounce world record brown trout from the Little Red River. ( not far from where I will be ... ) I hope the weather is not too bad. I will take lots of pictures. I believe there is a restriction on the size you can catch, so I hope I catch at least one big enough to eat. I may just pay for a guide so I will be sure to catch some reasonably sized fish. I understand they have rainbow, brown, cutthroat and brook trout as well as bream, bass and more... I have been going fishing since before I could walk ( I have a photo of me in a play pen when I was about a year old in 1949 at Pickwick Dam, while my father was fishing from the bank... ) Larry

Come on up here you guys. We have the South Holston and the Watauga. I don't believe they get quite that big as you guys have there but there are plenty of them. There are a lot of fly fishermen up here but myself, I am a purist. I use a worm.

Fishin'
Good luck.
I haven't tried the Maryland waters yet. I sure miss fishing in Montana. I haven't really fished the tourist rivers in SW Montana, primarily the Madison, but there are great spots near Missoula, including Rock Creek, The Big Blackfoot (portrayed in "A River Runs Through It), The Clark Fork, The Bitteroot, and dozens of wonderful small streams. I use flies, dry and wet. I'm told the primary fly waters close to here are in Western Maryland, West Virginia and The general Allegheny Mountain area of Pennsylvania. I didn't get out this summer. Near Baltimore, is Gunpowder Falls (here, "Falls" means "river," not a waterfall) It offers some kind of fly fishing for stocked trout, I'm told.

Montana
I think you really blew it. That Maryland move ruined your Blue Ribbon trout fishing.
When we lived in Newport, I traveled often to Montana to go fly fishing. It doesn't get better than Montana. Use to fish the Clark Fork and Kootani up above Libby. Big fish and lots of them. Keith |
