Default Oreilly show and christmas

Last night on Bill Oreilly show , Bill had two catholic priest on talking about Christmas.
Now I may be wrong but, for the last 20 years the Catholic church has been against Business use of Christmas in stores for business reasons, Stores that advertise Christmas don't care about Christmas just like they don't care about after halloween White sale. Or Valentines day or what ever day they are putting in there windows, The people in the stores may care about Christmas but the people in corperate offices that decide what to put in advertisment or in there windows or what there greeters say, could care less, They are looking at bottom line on the ledger, If saying Marry Christmas brings in people, they say it, If saying happy hoildays gets them TV coverage thats what they say.
Walmart doesn't have there products printed in spanish because they like Mexicans, They do it for the Mexican peoples Money, They don't have Christmas displays and stuff because they like Christans, They want the Christans Money, People are so gullable.

So what's you point? Isn't the whole reason for being in retail business to make money? That is what they are trying to do.

I don't have a problem with people making money at Christmas. That's capitalism. You can choose to buy or not buy. Some are choosing to donate to charities instead of buying shit people will never use. The point of the discussion was that all the places banning "merry christmas", not allowing nativity scenes, (which, by the way, we have on ALL THREE BASES here in Beaufort, HOOAH!), and that the Catholic Church has not come out and defended Christmas. He said that many Protestant groups are banning together to put Christmas back in the holiday and he had the priests on to discuss it.

For years the Catholic church has been against the business use of christmas, I think most people don't care if they say Merry Christmas or if they don't even have a greeter, They shop at walmart because its cheep. Some religous people are making a big deal out of it for there own personal reasons.

Default Celebrate whatever you want

I still say Merry Christmas and if people want to take offense at it, thats their prerogative.
There's some VERY strange meanings to that term as seen below-who's REALLY warring on Chriistmas here? Why is there no outcry against this type of thinking??
I Sort of like the idea of an all-religions holiday for everyone, it doesn't have to even be on Christmas Day. Christians can still celebrate on DEc 25th if they want (although thats only Christs birthday by papal fiat) but as of right now if Jews, Moslems and whatevers want to celebrate their holy days they have to take the day off--so it should be with Christians too and my notion of a good CHRIstian (or good American) wouldn't argue with that.
My familiy's not real religious, most of us don't even go to church on CHRIstmas (I go on Christmas Eve sometimes) but we're still nominallyy Christians.
I think that the people running around saying there's a war on CHristmas are doing so to raise their ratiings (i.e. make more money). This makes them liittle more than media pimps in my book, hustling theiir view on Christmas to make a lousy buck any way they can. YEAh, thats Capitalism, all right, with a capitall C, but it sure isn't Christian. They also make up and distort to make thheir point--I saw the dig at John Stewart by O Reilly--O REILLy had a 2 year old clip from Stewarts show--which was a spoof--as proof that Stewart "wars" on Christmas. Olberman makes O Reilly "The Worst Person In The World" at least once a week for all the lies he says about other people. OReilly never even questions Coulters statements, even the obviously anti CHRIstmas statement posted below.
. There's no war agaiinst Christians in this country, to say so trivializes actual war and the sacrifices being made in one right now. This country is run by CHristians, every major part of it.
Christian Americans should show tolerance for other peoples views--its the American AND the Christian thing to do.

Post Christmas

Christmas began purely and simply as a special mass to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. 364 AD
Some started giving gifts because the wisemen gave gifts and because God gave us Jesus.
Over the years Christmas has become extremely commercialized. Many retail business make as much as half of their entire income from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
As Christians we sometimes feel that commercial Christmas has undermined the true meaning of Christmas. Also, the idea of Christmas going PC, it is no longer PC to say Merry Christmas but we are encouraged to say Happy Holidays, etc.
There is a feeling that PC is robbing the spiritual meaning of Christmas and the commercial emphasis is out of control (has been for years and years) is taking away from what was began as purely and simply a Catholic Mass observing the Birth of Christ.

So, when Catholics and conservative Christians complain about the way they feel that Christmas is being destroyed by commercialism and the undermining by liberal PC you'll understand (if you really think about it) they do have a point.
I say Merry Christmas, after all this is a free country.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FOLKS!

Keith

P.S. December 25 was chosen as Christmas to counter the pagan worship of the winter solstice. It most certainly isn't the true date of Christ's birth.

Default James/Kieth

You know I hardly ever say "What ______ says" like some people here, I think its just because they don't have or can't form an opinion. But then maybe not. You two have very good thoughts on the subject.
So with that in mind.
What James and Kieth said.

I also agree with what James and Keith say. Most people of all other religions get Christmas off wheather they celebrate it or not. If I lived in a Moslem country or a buddhist country, I would not except to get Christmas off but would probably be off on their holy days. Those days I would say to people, Happy Chaunika, Merry Budda's Birthday, Happy Rahmadon, whatever the case. I would NOT expect the country, founded on whatever religion, to change things because I happen not to believe in their religion. I would hope they would respect mine as I do their's. I don't see any people of other religions or atheists complaining if they get Christmas off.
