Default Some cool things about Oregon

As many of you know, I am very happy that I moved to Oregon after spending most of my life in CA. Its much smaller, both physically and population-wise, takes me back to a time in Ca when the towns didn't all run together.

here's something REALLY cool about Oregon--check this out: you don't have to stop at the stop sign while youre making a right turn--this is this way on many of the stop signs--don't worrry about stopping if turnign right, , its cool, no problem.

Ive never seen this in another state--anybody get this in their state?

Stay good
James

Default In Newport

I drove out to newport OR yesterday, this is becoing one of my favorite places--a g reat coast town--terrific beaches, a big harbor, a nice old bridge, a working fishermans wharf.
They set greatstore by whalewatching on the OR coats, its a tourist atttraction. They set up a whale watching place and the Walk thats surrrounds it is dedicated to Vietnam veterans---here's a sign they have there.

Default Fisherman's wharf

I love a working fishermans wharf, the sights and sounds, the smells, the action. A cold day when the fogs drifting in and you can hear the buoy bells tolling dolorously through the gloom. ( a little purple prose here)

But what I like is all these murals on the walls they got there. Theyre all fish oriented

Like this one

Default More about Newport

This place has been an Oregon resort since the railroad got here around 1900 (actually stops a little further inland) But its been a fishing town since 1850 (yes I know thats young to Eastcoasters but its old here)

This towns got the look of a new England fishing village in places

Said there was terrrific beaches, didn't I? This isn't even the half of them. I like a beach on a wild and stormy day (and any other day)

Boy I'm glad I moved to Oregon, this is only bout an hour and half away--just like the skiing.

Post I'll be driving through

On the way to my brother's funeral, I'll be driving through tomorrow. Lived my first 18 years in Oregon. I'll hit Oregon at The Dallas and then on to Portland, then down I-5 to Roseburg, then head over the hill to Myrtle Point (Coos Bay, area).

Keith
