Help me identify this, please.
I've had this in my "oddball cartridge" collection for about 30 years.
I'm guessing this is some kind of ammunition since it appears to have a primer in the base. Around the primer are four holes at 90 degree intervals. Body appears to be steel or stainless steel. Diameter: .492 inches LOA: 1.484 inches Is this a collectible item? Col Murph? Anyone?

Steve...not sure of the exact name, but looks like ammo they made for pistols that is actually a rocket. I am sure Col Murph knows the correct name for them.

That's a "Jyro-Jet" round for a pistol that came out in the 60's. Wasn't very popular as it was no good for short range. The projectile didn't gain full velocity until it was about 25 feet down range. The cartrige is HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE! Probably worth in the neighborhood of $500.00, possibly more. Unfired rounds are VERY rare. The round is worth MORE than the pistol that fired it.

I stand corrected. The projectile did not gain full velocity until it was approximately 100 yards! down range. At a range of 200 yards the weapon was VERY accurate and Lethal but pretty useless at the usual handgun range of 3 to 5 yards. Obviously it did not sell to the troops. The weapons are out there and look sort of funny with all the holes in the frame and what serves as a barrel and are still pretty cheap. BUT the ammo has disappeared, having been snapped up by collectors. The ammo hasn't been made since the demise of the pistol. Hang on to your "Collectors Item".
