Thumbs up A Bubblehead in the Making

Proud father here reports that Son Sean has graduated from Nuclear Prototype school #2 in his class. Will go to Groton in a couple of weeks for sub driving school then head to his first boat the USS Louisana. He'll only be a butter bar when he reports on board. I told him to listen to Chiefs and senior enlisteds closely.

Please tell me about the term "Bubblehead."

A quick net search revealed this:

Bubblehead Productions Bubblehead Productions produces high quality custom submarine prints and posters. We concentrate on nuclear submarines but are branching out to include diesel boats as well.
members.aol.com http://bubblehead.justbusiness.net/

At this time, we are offering custom prints of 151 of the Navy?s 192 nuclear powered submarines. These include all 598 (Washington), 608 (Allen), 616 (Lafayette), 637 (Sturgeon), 640 (Franklin), 688 (Los Angeles), and 726 (Ohio) class boats. We are currently working on the six Skipjack and fourteen Thresher/Permit class boats and will have them available in February 2000. Other small classes will be added if there is sufficient demand for them. Please let us know if you desire one. Each custom print is approximately 8" by 20" and is available for $32.95 (plus $4.95 for shipping and handling). Because these are custom prints, we require 3 to 4 weeks for delivery.

bubble head is just a nickname for a submariner. I assume it has something to do with the bubble in a carpenter's level.

A boomer is the nickname of the SSBN's that carry ICBM's as opposed to attack submarines. Sean's boat is over 500 feet long and all ICBM's. He is a bubblehead on a boomer

Boy does time fly!!! Sean has completed his tour of duty on board the USS Louisana. His last assignment on board was the Assistant Weapons Officer as an O-3. He is now in Washington State in charge of training submarine commanders on firing torpedoes, etc.

THe other day he told me that he just may consider another tour which would put him on an attack Sub. I am not telling my wife this. It would probably freak her out. He still has time to change his mind anyway. Now he's married and I have a 3 month old grandson.

So life is good.
