FIRST INDOCHINA WAR:
March 21, 1946 (18th day of the 2nd month, Year of the Dog [Binh Tuat]): The following communique is issued by the High Commissioner for Indochina: "Rebel activities have increased in the Bien Hoa area, on both banks of the river Dong Nai. A French convoy has been attacked on the road between Bien Hoa and Tan Uyen where a land mine had been laid by the rebels. In the (Baclo) area, northwest of Saigon, a number of pirates have been captured in the course of a clean-up raid. Among the captured men are five Japanese deserters. The dead bodies of three Japanese, including an officer, have been found at the point where the operation was carried out. A French detachment was ambushed at (San Jay), south Annam. The detachment, nevertheless, succeeded in carrying out its mission. Several aggressions by rebel parties are reported along the coastal road." March 21, 1968 (23rd day of the 2nd month, Year of the Monkey [Mau Than]) (US Tet Counteroffensive): Operation Alcorn Cove begins in Long Binh-Bien Hoa area. March 21, 1969 (4th day of the 2nd month, Year of the Rooster [Ky Dau]) (US Tet Counteroffensive): An American fire support base in Tay Ninh Province is attacked. SINO-VIETNAMESE WAR: March 21, 1979 (24th day of the 2nd month, Year of the Goat [Ky Mui]): Vietnam proposes to begin peace talks on March 29, provided all Chinese troops are withdrawn. |
