Syrian air defense systems "responded to the Israeli missile aggression carried out from the town of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights,” Syrian news agency Sana reported. Sana states, citing "army sources”, that anti-aircraft systems “responded to the shelling and shot down most enemy missiles and limited the material damage they could cause".

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (an opposition to the Assad regime, based in London and with knowledgeable sources among the Syrian population) reports that "Israel bombed Assad regime army targets and pro-Iranian militias near Damascus."

SOHR reports, citing Syrian opposition sources, that Boeing belonging to Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with weapons on board landed in Damascus airport on Sunday. The weapons were intended for pro-Iranian militants or for Hezbollah.

SOHR says five pro-Iranian militants were killed in Israel’s strikes. According to other unconfirmed reports, the victim of the air strike may have been an Iranian general.

The airstrikes, which are attributed to Israel, targeted militaryfacilities in Izraa, As Suwayda, Al Qunaitra, and the vicinity of Damascus.

The cargo must have been destroyed during the Israeli attack, but there is no firm evidence of this. Israel does not officially comment on reports of its involvement in airstrikes in Syria. The Syrians also do not share details in such cases.

Last Friday, the Israeli and Russian defense ministers held a telephone conversation. They discussed the "current situation in Syria" and "prospects of joint cooperation".

Involved: Syria, Russia, Israel

Arrow Syrian air defense systems attacked Israeli F-16 fighters over Golan Heights

Syrian air defense systems attacked Israeli F-16 fighters over Golan Heights

Re: https://bulgarianmilitary.com/2020/0...golan-heights/

DAMASCUS, (BM) – A few hours ago, the IDF [Israel Air Forces – ed.] again attempted to launch missile strikes on Syrian territory, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing nes gaency Aviapro.

However, this time Syrian air defense systems began attacking Israeli planes and missiles directly over the captured Golan Heights, which was a complete surprise for Tel Aviv.

Several sources report a series of powerful explosions in the airspace of the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel.

We are most likely talking about downed missiles, however, experts do not exclude that the Syrian military could well pursue the goal of shooting down Israeli combat aircraft, in particular, we are talking about F-16 fighters.

No less remarkable is the fact that the Syrian military used the Tor complexes to repel the IDF attack – there is no official confirmation of this, however, experts drew attention to the very unusual flight of anti-aircraft missiles used to intercept targets.

Previously, the Pantsir-S and Buk complexes were used to repel attacks, however, it is obvious that the Syrian military is looking for the best option to counter Israeli aggression.

At the moment, sources report that it was possible to intercept all 100% of cruise missiles launched from the Golan Heights, however, there are no official statements from Damascus by the current hour.

Syria, decided to arm itself with Iranian missile systems

We reported on this step to the Syrian government on 11 July. Then, The Syrian Defense Ministry has come to a general agreement with Iran regarding the supply of anti-aircraft missile systems and updating the existing Syrian air defense system.

Iranian air defense systems are ready to provide full protection for Syrian airspace, military experts firmly state this. The deployment of the Bavar-373 air defense systems is planned to be carried out throughout Syria. I want to note that this air defense system is a complete analogue of the Russian S-300, because the characteristics of these weapons are similar, as is the price segment.

This whole issue of modernization was posed due to the downtime of the S-300 and their inaction. Let me remind you that Russian air defense systems S-300 are based in Syria, but they do not carry out their work, since Russia does not fully intervene in this military-political conflict and the Syrian military campaign as a whole.

Also, the Iranian military is ready to share their experience with Syrian soldiers in the issue of managing and operating Iranian air defense systems; moreover, military experts note that the Bavar-373 air defense system has extensive experience in detecting American fighters.

In general, Russian systems are “idle” for obvious reasons, if they intercept American stealth fighters or Israeli / Turkish UAVs, then a new military-political conflict could easily erupt. That is why Russian air defense systems are inactive.

War in Syria

In February, Turkey lost at least 62 troops killed in Syria, nearly 100 soldiers were wounded, dozens of Turkish armored vehicles were destroyed and more than ten drones, including drone, were shot down. Washington has repeatedly accused Moscow of involvement in the deaths of Turkish soldiers, Russia rejects these allegations.

In early March, the presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, concluded an agreement according to which a ceasefire came into force in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad later said that if the US and Turkish military did not leave the country, Damascus would be able to use force.

The reason for the Russian-Turkish negotiations was a sharp aggravation of the situation in Idlib, where in January a large-scale offensive by the Syrian army against the positions of the armed opposition and terrorists began.

Government forces recaptured nearly half of the Idlib de-escalation zone and left behind a number of Turkish observation posts. After that, Ankara sharply increased its military contingent in the region and launched the operation “Spring Shield” to push the Syrian troops. Turkey is also supported by militants loyal to it.
