Info on Economic Development with Vietnam
Hello to all. I am new to the newsgroup. My name is Luan Tran. I am
currently living in Colorado. I'd like to know if anyone has any information on US companies dealing with Vietnam economic development/international trade. If so, please let me know how or whom to contact. I'd like to introduce myself to the group...Again, my name is Luan Tran. I came to the states about 22 years ago. I was born and raised in Rach Gia (300 kilometers south from Saigon). I came during the 80's influx of boat people. I spent about a year in Thailand, in a refugee camp, with my older brother. We were only 10 and 12 then. In 1983 we arrived in the US, under the sponsorship of the Lutheran Church for unaccompanied minors. We were placed in a series of foster homes....boy, there were crazy and wild stories, but I will save those for anyone wishing to know more in separate emails. Anyway, instead of being so F**CKED up in the head, we both managed to graduate from college. I joined the Army as an E-4, 11C - got out an E-4. The irony of the promotion system was I was one of the best and most motivated E-4 in the company. I even managed to get selected to SFAS, but the chain of command somehow managed to screw my paperwork up. I requested early out because I grew disillusioned of the system. What I can remember of the system are mostly good memories, but the sad thing about the system is that it fosters implicit abuse from immature NCOs. I wouldn't say there was blatant prejudice, but I received my fare share of abuse. After awhile I only wanted out. I wish I could do more with my time while in the service. What could a guy do with a college degree from Villanova and in pursuit of an MBA? Not much! The reason I enlisted was because I read and heard the curruption and abuse from the Vietnamese side during the war. I have an uncle who served 17 years in the Re-education Camp, for just believing and serving his country - General Khoi Tran. I've been told by my family how he could have become rich by exploiting fundings from the US. Instead, he lived a modest life while commanding loyalty and respect from his troops. Today he remains my unsung hero. That was why I set out to define my own meaning of patriotism... Now I'd like to something to bridge the gap between the two countries. If anyone knows any types of programs that deal with Vietnam, please let me know. I believe I can contribute my fare share. Luan Tran |

Re: Info on Economic Development with Vietnam
You should seek Mr. Ky Phongs consul.
He is one the Wisest men you will find. Make contact with a Special Forces Chapter near you. They will help you contact others who think like you do. Search; teamhouse tni All Viet Nam NGs seem to have their share of Waco's. Over look them. Look into, soc.history.war.vietnam & soc.culture.Vietnamese. I met many Re-Education Vietnamese at Ft. Bragg. Some did 20 years. I know what you are saying. Good luck Luan. "Luan" > Hello to all. I am new to the newsgroup. My name is Luan Tran. I am > currently living in Colorado.
