Just thought some might find it interesting to see
the current military pay chart.

It's a loooooonnnnnng way from the $68.00 a month I was getting in 1960 and
I was the highest paid Private in Korea in 1961 at a net of $102.00 a month.
Damn I make a lot more than that now in a day.

In 1963, we were getting $90 every two weeks (E4 under 4). Was tight
but adequate the one year we lived free in base housing. Can't
remember pay after Dale went over 4 and we moved off base, but in
1968(after his first tour in 'Nam and he picked up E5), we bought a
nice 3-bedroom brick home on 1 1/2 acres of land in the country
(NC)for $15,000 ($150 a month). House was appraised at $70,000 in
1990. Can't imagine how much the same type of house plus land would
cost today in most parts of the country. Do know, from living in HI
(which I believe has the highest cost of living) the very minimum
would start at $750,000. Was living in a 3-bedroom "plaster/wood"
(could put your fist thru the walls) on about 1/3 an acre, crammed
next to other homes that could have been purchased for that amount.

Don't even want to discuss the rent I am paying to live in a 3-bedroom
townhouse in a NICE area 25 miles outside of DC ):

Can't go back to the "good ole days", but I can always hope to hit the
Virginia Lottery and build my "dream home" on 20 acres in New
Mexico(G).

Looks pretty good compared to what we were being paid but still isn't
enough to raise a family on. Should be doubled as far as I'm
concerned. These kids deserve more.
My $.02 worth!
