Lightbulb Purple Heart Proposal

I would like to ask you to cause this to be printed in your column.

I have proposed that any member of our armed forces, who was or becomes a Prisoner of War and who died while a Prisoner of War, be awarded the Purple Heart Medal regardless of the cause of death.

Please help by calling your United States Senator or Congresspersom toll free at 1-800-648-3516 (Capitol switchboard) and tell them what office you wish to speak to. Also it would be appreciated if you could also call Senator Barbara Boxer's office and Senator Dianne Feinstein's office to tell them that you support this cause.

This message has been sent to all our Senators and Congress people and all those running for the Presidency.

The Purple Heart Medal is now awarded to those who were wounded in battle and after capture. This includes beatings. The medal is not awarded if a Prisoner of War died of malnutrition, starvation or other deseases or if they froze to death. The Prisoners of War who died did so because of the treatment by a brutal enemy which caused them to become weak and unable to fight off desease. For most of them there is no one left alive to testify and the next of kin only know that their loved one has gone to heaven.

We, the living, owe this to those who were promoted to Glory while a Prisoner of War and to their next of kin. Those men who are still in that God awful land, cannot speak for themselves.

All Prisoners of War held with me in Korea were beaten and usually more than once. 59% of our group, The Tiger Survivors, perished in camp.
