Default Anti-matter weapon systems million times more powerful than nukes

As if we don't have enough devastation from the already permanent effects of DUM's here's something completely new and wonderful to blow ourselves and our children up with. If the military industrial complex wants the technology for some nefarious use we'll never see any good use for the technology until they've made sure were either dead or scared to death.

Anti-matter weapon systems million times more powerful than nukes

indiadaily.com | February 28 2006

Defense scientists in many countries in the world are working on anti-matter weapon systems. These weapon systems are devastating. The level of destruction is unimaginable.

The theory behind the anti-matter is that every type of subatomic particle has its antimatter counterpart. But when matter and antimatter collide, they annihilate each other in an immense burst of energy.

It is possible to develop antimatter bombs small enough to hold in one's hand, and antimatter engines for 24/7 surveillance aircraft.

Many countries are secretly working on new generation of super weapons -- pure antimatter bombs that wouldn''t emit radioactive fallout. Some countries are secretly testing antimatter- powered "electromagnetic pulse" weapons that could fry an enemy's electric power grid and communications networks, leaving them literally in the dark and unable to operate their armed forces infrastructure,

electrons (negatively charged particles) and protons (positively charged particles) -- have antimatter counterparts: antielectrons and antiprotons. One fundamental difference between matter and antimatter is that their subatomic building blocks carry opposite electric charges. Thus, while an ordinary electron is negatively charged, an antielectron is positively charged (hence the term positrons, which means "positive electrons"); and while an ordinary proton is positively charged, an antiproton is negative.

If electrons or protons collide with their antimatter counterparts, they annihilate each other. In so doing, they unleash more energy than any other known energy source, even thermonuclear bombs.

Unlike regular nuclear bombs, positron bombs wouldn''t eject plumes of radioactive debris. When large numbers of positrons and antielectrons collide, the primary product is an invisible but extremely dangerous burst of gamma radiation. This can kill a large number of soldiers without touching the civilian population.

1.We've had this around for about 50 years....it's called an Atomic Bomb!
A nuclear explosion generates EMP strong enough to fry electronics in a lap top computer or a hand held calculator. However, if the devices are in a metal box (ammo can works for small devices) they are protected from EMP.

electrons (negatively charged particles) and protons (positively charged particles) -- have antimatter counterparts: antielectrons and antiprotons. ----so far they have not been observed in nature....only created in a cyclotron.

If electrons or protons collide with their antimatter counterparts, they annihilate each other. In so doing, they unleash more energy than any other known energy source, even thermonuclear bombs.

Unlike regular nuclear bombs, positron bombs wouldn''t eject plumes of radioactive debris. 2. Just how does a positron distinguish between soldiers and the civilian population? We already have a "Proton Bomb" which can kill everybody without damaging structures....is this what you are referring to?

Great story but not very likely.

1. Where are you going to get the anti-matter? There is none around in nature, it has to be created in a cyclotron and only lasts until it collides with a positive particle which annihlates it.

2. Even if you could gather enough, how would you store it? Theoretically it could be stored in a magnetic "Bottle" but this would require an immense power source to sustain a strong enough magnetic field to hold it. (forget about it being small enough to hold in the palm of your hand.

Did you get this from a Science Fiction Magazine?

Colmurph,

Are you sure it is not a "Neutron Bomb"? I have never heard of a "Proton Bomb".

You must have a serious problem with theory and reality.

Ok let's see if I can muck through this reasoning here, sorry but I've been ill for a couple weeks and wasn't able to respond to these quips. Remember I'm not a physicist so don't try this at home. Be safe around all radioactive devices!!!

1. Murph.... to be quite honest I have to agree with you, but we're not talking about an atomic bomb are we?

2. Positrons don't know shit from shinola and you can take that to the bank and I'm not familiar with a proton bomb. I'd have to side with Army_Brat84 on this one. Neutron bombs kill all life forms but leave behind a relatively safe and undamaged population center to occupy if I remember my Popular Science articles correctly. This device in the article uses Gamma rays to kill locally but not distantly. Considering how little antimatter it would take to make a device that could kill anyone a small handheld magnetic bottle should certainly be within the grasp of these scientists that use our military tax dollars to find even more efficient means of killing ourselves. When I was a freshman in High School in 1964 I wrote a short paper on LASERs and holograms. Now 40 years later we still don't have cheap hologram cameras or holographic museums or television, etc. Does that mean the technology hasn't advanced? Not very likely. It just hasn't been milked of all it's military uses yet to be turned loose on a world that could find plenty of peaceful uses. So if you think for a minute that a magnetic bottle with a small enough and portable enough and powerful enough power supply is a problem for the military industrial complex, think again.
1a. If there is no anti-matter in nature, then how did they prove it's existence in the cyclotron?
2b. The original article was from indiadaily.com, considering how much scientific work we have outsourced to those folks, who knows. My guess is that it certainly isn't unreal to speculate.

Army_Brat84....Well said!

PHO...I thought everyone knows that reality sucks and theory blows....hold on.....getting message through tinfoil hat...must adjust...adjust....adjust
